Borat and D150

Even before the 2006 movie “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” comedian Sacha Baron Cohen’s fictional Kazakh TV journalist swept the nation as a character on Cohen’s “Da Ali G Show.”

Borat visited The Henley Royal Regatta in July of 1999. There he met the Dartmouth Varsity Lights. In “kissing order,” they are:

  •  Austin Whitman ‘99,

  • Jon Rivinus ‘99,

  • Chris Rea ‘99,

  • Ben Cotting ‘01,

  • Andy Hilton ‘99,

  • Tom Stephens ‘01,

  • John Nichols ‘01,

  • Puck Wheaton ‘01, and

  • Denise McBeth ‘01

The Lights appear around the 2:45 mark—but it’s worth watching the entire video, even if you’ve enjoyed this piece of D150 lore before.

One note, though: On a scale of “Inoffensive to Five Alarm Borat,” this piece probably qualifies as “mild Borat.” Nonetheless, viewer discretion is advised.
